Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Cathy now lives in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains

Genre: Non-fiction and Poetry

Growing up, she spent a lot of time in her family’s organic garden (before organic was cool). Fresh corn, okra, asparagus, and blueberries were some of her favorite things to grow. In a small greenhouse behind their home, they also sold tomato and pepper plants. To this day, she can be found stepping in random greenhouses just to bring back sweet childhood memories.

Cathy and her husband, Brian, are currently building a Victorian tiny house on a hill behind their home. Inside the tiny house, there will be an antique mantle taken from their former hundred-year-old home, an eight-foot desk (and a window to match), a reading corner, and a small loft for the grand-kids to play. On most days, you’ll find her playing quiet music while working on her latest writing projects.

Above all, Cathy wants the tiny house to serve as a light on a hill, much like the city mentioned in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”  In the future, she hopes to host online Bible studies, invite guest writers to join her for a day, offer podcasts, blog, and write her story of the tiny house adventure, as well as additional sensory-based vacation devotional guides. She’s especially excited about her new blog re-design coming in September, which will feature the tiny house and fresh updates. When you return home … you may not smell the scent of freshly fallen snow or Balsam Pine breezes, but you can rejoice in the sweet aroma of God’s restoring power. After all, some of the brightest and most aromatic flowers are those that bloom after dormancy in the winter.”  —Cathy Baker, Pauses for the Vacationing Soul, A Sensory-Based Devotional Guide for the Mountains
