North Carolina Christian Living author, LaTan Roland Murphy knew at a young age that she wanted to be a writer. Inspired and encouraged by her gifted mother and university professor, Carol Costa, she’s gone on to become a Selah Award nominated author, vocalist, and event speaker. Her passion and purpose is to encourage and bless others as she’s been blessed.

With candid humility LaTan says, “God amazes me daily by honoring an ordinary girl like me to speak to extraordinary people.”  Drawing from her real-life mistakes and failures, she entertains audiences with hilarious personal stories and encourages them to look for everyday blessings in the middle of crazy-busy living. Men and women alike respond to her rare authenticity saying they feel as though they’ve known her their entire lives.

After being a regularly featured columnist for the nationally recognized WHOA Women’s Magazine, contributing to numerous magazines, several anthologies, and co-authoring God’s Provision in Tough Times, this Georgia-born Southern belle authored her first book in 2014.

While LaTan prepared Becoming a Woman of Elegance for publication, her mother-in-law, who suffered from cancer and knew her homegoing was drawing near, approached her saying, “I want to hold one of your published books in my hands before I go, so we need to self-publish your first one.” Cherishing the memory, LaTan said, “And, we did! The joy of my life was seeing her hold it in her hands.”

Her most recent book, Courageous Women of the Bible: Leaving Behind Fear and Insecurity for a Life of Confidence and Freedom, was released last year by Bethany House Publishing. “It transformed me as a woman of God.” The book highlights eleven courageous women in the Bible and shows how each was uniquely positioned for success because of her courageous choices. The stories within inspire women of all ages to trust God, minister to others, and live confidently and courageously no matter the season of life or what lies ahead.

The desire of LaTan’s heart is to continue to speak life into women and girls. “I hope and pray my life has pointed others to the One, True, and Living God, whether through writing, speaking or day to day living.”

When asked what advice she would give an aspiring author struggling with their first book, she said, “NEVER give up! Ask God how HE wants it done!”

LaTan and her husband, Joe, met when they were teenagers and recently celebrated thirty-three years of marriage. They have two sons and a daughter and are blessed with a loving son-in-law and daughter-in-law “who feel more like biological children.” In her spare time, LaTan enjoys the company of her granddaughter and grandson who totally captivate her heart.
