Although Wichita, Kansas author, Kathryn Graves, was born in Louisville, Kentucky, she was reared in Frankfort. Her dad, a college professor, and her mom, a kindergarten teacher, instilled in her an early love of books. For them, reading was entertainment. One of her earliest memories is of her mother reading her bedtime stories. “I’ve always had a book in my hand and even read while doing chores, like dusting and vacuuming.”
A writer of devotions and creative non-fiction, she recalls the first time she wrote a creative piece. “I was in sixth grade and daydreaming during class. When asked to write, I simply wrote about my dream. The teacher was so impressed she posted it at open house for everyone to read, but I thought I’d cheated and was embarrassed.”
Now, a personal style expert with 15 years in the fashion industry, Kathryn wears many hats. She’s a pastor’s wife, Bible teacher, and Mimi to three grandsons, who can still be seen with a book in her hand whenever she’s not working. Although adept at multitasking, she says, “It’s difficult to read and write at the same time!”
After writing for her own enjoyment all of her life, the past ten years have afforded her published articles, devotions, and now her first traditionally published book, Fashioned by God, which released this past Tuesday, April 2nd. “I feel like I’m starting a new career! I hope to write other books in the future—and in fact, I have a collaborative project in the works that will release in 2020.”
