OCTOBER is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. After reading, If People with Down Syndrome Ruled the World, on the National Association for Down Syndrome website, I decided to compile a list of my own in honor of our precious daughter, Ashley. The following is what our world would look like if she had her say. I hope it brings a smile to your face and leaves your world a bit brighter.

Twelve things that would change if people with Down syndrome ruled the world…

The day would run according to your clock.

People wouldn’t have to wash their hands today because they washed them yesterday.

Shorts would be the attire for summer, winter, spring, and fall.

Chicken tenders would be served at every meal.

Television’s TGIF night would return.

Dukes of Hazzard and I Love Lucy would air on every channel 24/7.

Dancin’ to the oldies would be the order of the day.

VHS tapes would make a comeback.

One would carry six tote bags filled with DVD’s and VHS
tapes everywhere they went.

Every family would own a 15-passenger van to transport all your friends (invisible) . . . as well as their 90 totes of DVD’s and VHS tapes.

Christmas socks would be worn all year long. (Happy feet make for a happy life.)

And finally . . . There would be no more goodbyes, only “See you later.”

Now it’s your turn. If you ran the world, what would you add to this list?

I always welcome your comments.

Now go and brighten the day of someone who has Down syndrome with a random act of kindness.

See you later!  Starr
